Description

This book chronicles the unforgettable account of one of the most severe child abuse cases in California history. It is the story of Dave Pelzer, who was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother: a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games--games that left him nearly dead. He had to learn how to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him a son, but a slave; and no longer a boy, but an "it."

Dave's bed was an old army cot in the basement, and his clothes were torn and raunchy. When his mother allowed him the luxury of food, it was nothing more than spoiled scraps that even the dogs refused to eat. The outside world knew nothing of his living nightmare. He had nothing or no one to turn to, but his dreams kept him alive--dreams of someone taking care of him, loving him and calling him their son.

I was in complete disbelief when I read this book and a bit disturbed. I couldn't believe what his mother did and his father not doing anything about it.. poor child.. all that he went through!! I am glad that he got away and was able to make something of himself and that he had put his past behind him.. I can't imagine the internal pain that he had and how he struggled for so many years. I'm sure that it will always be with him, but I am glad that he was able to move on and create a family for himself. Bravo ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘!! Very inspirational book.

This is such a sad story. How can a mother treat her child, own flesh and blood, this way. He was just a little boy. The father was no better, he just walked away. I just can't believe that this is how it is in some people's homes. What a sheltered world some of us live in, including me. I don't know where this lady even thought up these ideas to do to her son. Who would even have thought of some of this. Some people are really wired wrong.

To me, the root of all evil is not money or ignorance, or wickedness. It's not caring. People have said before, that this is life. My reply is that it doesn't have to be.

Although this a great book this is definitely missing pages and or chapters . I've read this book inside and out many times and there are things missing from each chapter on this app so I am highly disappointed. Wish I could get my money back .
