Things in Whynot, NC have gone to the dogs, and that’s just the way the town’s only veterinarian, Laken Mancinkus, likes it. No matter if she’s up when the rooster crows, or working until the cows come home, Laken never leaves an animal in need. So when a gorgeous Yankee comes begging for help herding some wily goats, Laken is up to the task.

Jake McDaniel is looking for a tax break, and what better way than to take up…farming? This ex-football player turned businessman turned unwitting goat farmer is up to his knees in goat drama. Runaway goats, dehydrated goats, and a baby goat that wants no one other than him, Jake needs more help than he cares to admit. Good thing the sexy veterinarian is right there to coach him on how to be a farmer. The only problem is, Laken’s not looking for anything more than a good time, while Jake is looking for his forever girl.

Will the baby goat, and Laken, be enough to get Jake to stay? Or will he take his tax break and hoof it back to Chicago? One thing is for certain…what happens on the farm doesn’t always stay on the farm.

  • Another hit by Juliette Poe!!!

I can't believe how many times I laughed while reading this book!!! This whole series is adorably sweet and funny, but this has to be the best one yet!!! Laken is fiercely independent, slightly broken, and snarky as all get out!!! I freaking loved her!!! And, how can one man be so perfect!!! Jake was incredible!!! I can't say too much without giving things away and ruining the story for others, but... I'll say this, never has a male character pushed so many of the right buttons. This guy... sigh!!! Juliette Poe has another hit on her hands!!!
  • Jake!

I've enjoyed this series, so far, but Jake and Laken were by far my favorite! I loved it from beginning to end and didn't want to put it down! Jake may be my new favorite book boyfriend!

Barking Up the Wrong Tree is the 3rd in a series...however, can be read as a standalone as well. Loved this sexy, cute and romantic book by Juliette Poe. Laken is a small town girl from Whynot, NC - she's had the big city life before and not interested in any of it...then...oh yes, then... she meets Mr. Ex-football player, big city first time farm owner a/k/a Mr. Jake McDaniel. He buys a farm - that comes with animals and hilarity of the animals throughout the book had me laughing out loud on several occasions. Laken is the small town vet and Mr. McDaniel needs her assistance since he knows absolutely nothing about what he's doing regarding animals. The series - Sex and Sweet Tea is about the shenanigans of the Mancinkus family (brothers and sister). I can't wait for the next book and adventure with the Mancinkus shenanigans. Enjoy!
  • Pure Fun!

Barking Up the Wrong Tree (The Sex and Sweet Tea Series, Book 3), by Juliette Poe, the new sweet alter ego for Sawyer Bennett, is another thoroughly engaging read! In Barking Up the Wrong Tree, Poe takes us back to Whynot, North Carolina and the super funny and loving Mancinkus family. Laken Mancinkus, the town’s only veterinarian, has a run in with Jake McDaniel, a big city businessman and former football star and quickly the high jinx, romance and laughter ensue. As with all the books in this series, it’s light with lots of feels and extended family time. I especially loved Jake in this book. He is such a good man- not to mention BIG and HOT, but good. Jake comes from a big family, so immediately got along with the slightly eccentric and loud Mancinkus group. He is in Whynot basically to help out his ex-sister-in-law. Like I said, he is such a good guy. I fell for him quickly and easily and I’m sure you will too. And Larken, well she is an independent, strong and sassy woman who owns her insecurities and I loved that. One of my main reasons for loving this book was because, quite frankly, it was such a change of pace, to have the hero and heroine so open and willing to communicate in a relationship. Lately, so many books I read, most of the problems facing the hero and heroine are mainly caused by lack of communication. So the fact that both these characters were open about insecurities and about what they want was really awesome. And the cherry on the cake… We get more Pap Mancinkus and Herman and a baby goat who thinks she’s a real baby! You all are gonna love Herman and MG, trust me. I totally recommend this book and just can’t wait until Poe takes us back to Whynot for more Mancinkus romance and craziness! I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this novel. I am voluntarily and freely providing an honest review.
  • Fun, sweet book that you won’t want to put down!

** Received ARC for a fair and honest review** Barking Up the Wrong Tree is book #3 in the Sex and Sweet Tea series-- this is Laken's book. This book can be read as a standalone but for maximum benefit I would read in order so you know who the other characters are. Though the author does let you know the relation of each if you don't read the others. This is a fun series, and I really enjoyed this book. It's a fun, fast read. If you are looking for a book with a lot of hot and steamy scenes, this book is not for you. The sex in these books, to include this book is alluded to only. Though it is alluded to more in this book then the first two. Laken Mancinkus has been hurt in the past, and now she only has room for hook ups. When she meets Jake McDaniels, he turns her nice compartmentalized world upside down. Jake is a city boy comes to WhyNot supposedly looking for a tax write off for his company and knows nothing about farming. So when he goes to visit his place, he finds his foreman has quit and his goats are running amok and he has no idea how to get them back on his property. He heads to Chesty's her pap's bar to locate the vet and things get a little heated between them. Laken does help Jake but only because she isn't going to allow harm to the animals but she is going to make him pay, and the cost isn't going to be monetary. As I mentioned earlier, I really enjoyed this book, the characters feel fun, and real to me and I enjoyed the chemistry between them. I lived in NC for 7 years and when the author talks about Raleigh and Pinehurst areas I was frequently in it definitely caused me some nostalgia... The only complaint I have is I wish the author gave you a little more story at the ending, an epilogue or something. I know the characters will come up in the upcoming books, but it really left me wanting more and not ready to end the story. But it doesn't detract from the story in any way. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!

I am loving this series and it just seems to get better and better. Laken and Jake's story just made my heart sing. There are so many things about this book I loved I don't really know where to start. First there is Jake. So swoon worthy and sexy. Then there is Herman and part of the story from his POV. Add in Miss Goatikins and I was a goner. This book is a nice easy read that's just a whole lot of fun. I highly recommend it to everyone.
